Taormina

Taormina is a hilltop town on the eastern coast of Sicily. It lies near Mount Etna, an active volcano with trails leading to the summit. The town is known for its Teatro Antico, an ancient Greco-Roman theater still in use today. Near the theater, cliffs descending to the sea form coves with sandy beaches.

A narrow strip of sand connects Taormina to the tiny Isola Bella, a nature reserve of absolute beauty. About 6 kilometers from Taormina is the Pearl of the Ionian Sea, from which you can visit the Ancient Theater, the Villa Comunale, Palazzo Corvaja, and Taormina Cathedral, which is dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Bari and is also known as the Fortress Cathedral.
